Camotes Group has three main islands. Ponson Island is the location of Pilar Diesel Power Plant. Pacijan and Poro Islands are connected by a 1.5 kilometer causeway with their power requirement being catered by the Camotes Diesel Power Plant. This group of islands is composed of four municipalities namely, Pilar, San Francisco, Tudela and Poro. Tourism is potentially a factor to the economic development of Camotes with its white sand beaches, mangrove forest, rocky coves, caves system with underground freshwater lake, waterfalls and Lake Danao which is considered as one of the country’s cleanest freshwater lake. Snorkeling and diving sites also abound in the surrounding water. Resorts with modern amenities that cater to both domestic and foreign visitors are also available.
This new haven can be reached from Danao City Port to Consuelo Port or from Cebu City Port to Poro Port thru a 2 hour ferry boat ride. The place can also be reached from Ormoc City in Leyte thru a 1 hour boat ride to Pilar Port. A small unpaved airstrip is in the area to accommodate light planes.
With its hospitable inhabitants, serene environment and a promise of adventure, Camotes is fast becoming as one of the country’s must see tourists destination.
